At the start of 2022, the Weymouth Food Pantry partnered with Project DASH (DoorDash) to make deliveries to home-bound residents (mostly seniors and veterans) who, because of their age, health, or disability are not mobile enough to visit the food pantry for assistance. Today, I joined our community to recognize how instrumental this partnership has been in our efforts to combat food insecurity and to celebrate the 500th delivery of the partnership.
Statewide last year, 32% of adults faced food insecurity and the Weymouth Food Pantry saw its highest usage rate in their history. The pantry has been there every step of the way to ensure our local families have the opportunity to put quality food on the table – they’ve expanded operations to a new 4,000 sq. foot warehouse and increased their capacity by 60%, they handed out meals during the peak of COVID, and they have supported a backpack program providing meals to children in need on the weekends.
Their work is crucial to helping families and I am so thankful to have them - and DoorDash - in our community.
