Earlier today, I joined Rep. Meschino, Hingham Police Chief Jones, Town Clerk Eileen McCracken, the Hingham Veterans’ Council, and others at Town Hall to commemorate Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.
At the ceremony, a Memorial Wreath was presented to the Police Department to show our continued support and remembrance of the roughly 150 officers who are killed in the line of duty each year, and their families and colleagues who are left to cope with the tragic loss. The idea for Peace Officers’ Memorial Day dates back to 1961 when President Kennedy made May 15th the official designation – since then every President has done the same.
Thank you to those who came out today for the small ceremony and to those who serve.
